Rp1 Trillion Electric Motorcycle Procurement for MBG Program Under Investigation Over Alleged Markup

Jakarta, June 2026 – Indonesia's Attorney General's Office is investigating alleged irregularities in the procurement of 21,801 electric motorcycles intended to support the government's Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG). The project, valued at more than Rp1 trillion, has become one of the most closely watched corruption investigations in the country.

Prosecutors suspect that the procurement process may have involved price inflation, commonly known as a markup, resulting in potential losses to the state. The investigation is part of a broader probe into the management of the MBG program during the 2025–2026 period.

More Than 21,000 Electric Motorcycles Procured

According to investigators, the project involved the purchase of 21,801 electric motorcycles with a total contract value of approximately Rp1.03 trillion. The motorcycles were intended for operational use by nutrition service units supporting the MBG program across Indonesia.

The Attorney General's Office alleges that the procurement process may not have been based on actual operational needs and is examining whether procurement procedures were improperly influenced.

Thousands of Units Reportedly Still in Storage

Investigators revealed that thousands of the electric motorcycles remain stored in warehouses and have not yet been distributed for operational use. The status of these vehicles has become one of the key issues being examined in the ongoing investigation.

Vendor Under Scrutiny

Prosecutors are also investigating the role of the supplier involved in the procurement process. According to the investigation, questions have been raised regarding whether the selected vendor met all requirements necessary to handle a project of this scale.

Authorities are currently calculating the exact amount of potential state losses and assessing whether pricing irregularities occurred during the procurement process.

Several Suspects Named

The Attorney General's Office has named several suspects in connection with the broader MBG corruption investigation, including individuals linked to procurement activities and company executives associated with the project. The investigation remains ongoing and additional parties could be questioned as prosecutors continue gathering evidence.

Motorcycles Will Still Be Utilized

Despite being part of a corruption investigation, prosecutors have stated that the electric motorcycles will not necessarily be confiscated and are expected to remain available for government operational use if legally permitted.

Investigation Continues

The case has attracted significant public attention due to the size of the procurement contract and its connection to one of Indonesia's flagship social programs. Investigators are continuing to examine procurement documents, pricing mechanisms, and the decision-making process behind the project.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to provide further details regarding the extent of any alleged markup and the total financial impact on the state. Until a final court ruling is issued, all suspects remain entitled to the presumption of innocence.
