Hong Kong Woman Arrested for Smuggling Rp10.9 Billion Worth of Ketamine at Soekarno-Hatta Airport

Tangerang, June 13, 2026 - Authorities from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police and Customs Office have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle ketamine worth approximately Rp10.9 billion into Indonesia. A Hong Kong national identified by the initials WNK was arrested after officers discovered 10.8 kilograms of ketamine hidden inside her luggage.

According to Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Senior Commissioner Wisnu Wardana, the narcotics were transported through an international flight route using a concealment method involving health supplement packaging. The suspect had reportedly arrived in Indonesia on a flight route from Paris to Dubai and then Jakarta.

During an inspection of the suspect's luggage, officers found 199 packages labeled as Fit Lane Basics health supplements. Further examination revealed that the packages actually contained ketamine powder.

Laboratory testing later confirmed that the contents of all packages were ketamine, with a total gross weight of 10,798.2 grams, or approximately 10.8 kilograms.

Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, AKP Michael Tandayu, stated that the suspect is believed to have acted as a courier for an international drug trafficking network.

During initial questioning, WNK allegedly admitted that she had been instructed by an individual identified only as "S," who is also believed to be a Hong Kong citizen. Authorities have since placed the individual on the wanted persons list and are continuing efforts to locate him.

Police estimate that the seizure prevented the potential distribution of narcotics to more than 21,000 users. The estimate was calculated based on an average ketamine consumption rate of approximately 0.5 grams per user.

The suspect is currently being held at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Headquarters and has been charged under Articles 435 and 436 Paragraph (2) of Indonesia's Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health.

If convicted, WNK could face a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp5 billion.

Authorities described the case as one of the largest ketamine smuggling attempts uncovered at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in recent years. Investigators from both the police and Customs Office stated that the investigation remains ongoing as they seek to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the international drug trafficking network.
