Mother and Son Wanted in Rp4.75 Billion Corruption Case Arrested in Surabaya

Surabaya, June 3, 2026 - The Fugitive Apprehension Team of the Surabaya District Attorney's Office has successfully arrested a mother and her son who had been wanted in connection with a fictitious working capital loan corruption case involving Bank Jatim. The case allegedly caused state losses amounting to Rp4.75 billion.

The two convicts, identified as Liauw Inggarwati and her son, Bastian Widjaja, had been listed as fugitives since 2022.

Authorities arrested the pair without resistance on June 2, 2026, at a residence in the Lakarsantri area of Surabaya. Prosecutors stated that investigators had conducted surveillance and tracking operations for approximately three weeks before locating the suspects.

According to the District Attorney's Office, the fugitives frequently moved between hiding locations in Surabaya and Magetan during their time on the run. Investigators also suspect that they attempted to avoid detection by changing identities and erasing traces of their digital activities.

In the corruption case, Liauw Inggarwati was sentenced to eight years in prison, fined Rp500 million, and ordered to pay Rp3.08 billion in restitution to compensate for state losses.

Meanwhile, Bastian Widjaja received a sentence of 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million.

Both defendants were tried and convicted in absentia after repeatedly failing to appear during legal proceedings.

Following their arrest, the mother and son were immediately transferred to Class I Surabaya Correctional Facility in Porong, Sidoarjo, to begin serving their sentences, which have already obtained permanent legal force.

Authorities also revealed that the case still involves another suspect who remains at large and is currently being sought by law enforcement officials.

The arrest marks a significant achievement for the Fugitive Apprehension Team in its efforts to track down individuals who attempt to evade justice after being convicted in corruption cases.
