Australian Interpol Fugitive Arrested in Bali While Attempting to Escape on a Private Jet
DENPASAR, June 6, 2026 - Indonesian immigration authorities at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali have arrested an Australian national wanted by Interpol while he was allegedly attempting to flee aboard a private jet bound for Maputo, Mozambique.
The suspect was identified as Angelo Pandeli, 55, who is reportedly linked to transnational organized crime investigations in Australia.
The case attracted international attention after authorities discovered that Pandeli was allegedly traveling using a fraudulent Brazilian passport and had reportedly hidden inside the aircraft's restroom in an attempt to avoid detection.
Suspicion Raised During Immigration Inspection
According to Indonesian authorities, immigration officers became suspicious when examining a passenger traveling under a Brazilian passport bearing the initials "GAM."
A database check reportedly revealed no valid record of entry into Indonesia or legal immigration status under that identity. The discrepancy prompted further investigation.
The private jet, carrying three crew members and four foreign passengers, had been scheduled to depart from Denpasar for Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. However, authorities delayed the flight after identifying irregularities involving one of the passengers.
Found Hiding Inside the Aircraft Restroom
During the inspection process, several passengers allegedly re-boarded the aircraft without authorization while preparations for departure were underway.
Airport authorities immediately ordered the aircraft to return to the VIP terminal for additional checks.
While conducting a search of the aircraft, officers reportedly found the suspect hiding inside a restroom. Following his detention, investigators confirmed his identity as Angelo Pandeli, an Australian citizen listed in international law enforcement databases.
Alleged Links to International Criminal Networks
Information provided by Australian authorities and international law enforcement agencies reportedly identifies Pandeli as a figure associated with Transnational Serious Organised Crime activities.
He has also been linked in media reports to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang and a criminal network commonly referred to as the "Aussie Cartel."
Australian authorities have alleged that Pandeli was connected to major narcotics smuggling operations targeting Australia. Intelligence reports further suggest that he may have been involved in coordinating drug distribution and precursor chemical trafficking.
However, public reports indicate that no court has yet convicted Pandeli of those allegations, and some Australian media outlets have reported that he was not facing active criminal charges at the time of his deportation from Indonesia.
Use of Allegedly Fraudulent Documents
Investigators later determined that the Brazilian passport used by Pandeli was allegedly fraudulent.

Following his detention in Bali, Angelo Pandeli was deported to Australia at the request of Australian authorities.
He was transported to Adelaide, where he is now under the supervision of Australian law enforcement agencies.
Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration has also imposed a lifetime ban preventing Pandeli from re-entering Indonesian territory.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) confirmed that it continues to coordinate with Indonesian authorities regarding the case and any potential future legal proceedings.
